INTRODUCTION
Interrupt Button is a simple, extremely handy INIT, which allows Macintosh users with a Programmers’ Switch, to hit the Interrupt Button and return to the desktop — without having that obnoxious dialog appear, the having to type in “G FINDER” in order to return to the desktop. (A Programmers’ Switch, is that little panel with the two buttons on it. Sometimes, the switch is simply two little buttons pointing out of the Mac, without the panel. These buttons can appear on specific Macs either on the left side in the back of your Mac (like the Classic, or Classic II) or on the left side of the front panel, near the bottom (like the IIci or Centris 650). Unfortunately, on some Macs you have to have it installed either when you buy the machine, or after you have bought it — it doesn’t come free with the Mac [e.g., the IIci]. Two symbols appear on or above the buttons. One button has a symbol like the “PLAY” sign of a tape recorder. This is the Restart Button. The other symbol looks just like the one on the Interrupt Button INIT icon (a little circle with a jagged line running through the middle). You will need to push that one). Other Macs don’t even have a Programmers’ Switch, which is why you must get a utility such as Programmer’s Key (©1991 Paul Mercer, Shareware). To use Interrupt Button on all other Macs without a Programmers’ Switch, with a utility like the one mentioned above, all you need to do is press the Command Key and the StartUp Key at the same time, and Interrupt Button will work as normal.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
Any Macintosh with a Programmers’ Switch installed & System 4 or greater; System 6 or 7 are prefered. Any Macs that DO NOT have a Programmers‘ Switch, also require a utility as mentioned above. Simply use the keyboard as described. ——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
MORE INFORMATION:
Every so often you will be working in an application when suddenly you get a System Error (commonly refered to as a BOMB)! Since you generally don‘t have the option to resume with your work, you‘ll have to restart; but with Interrupt Button, all you have to do is press your Interrupt Button on your Mac, and you will be returned to the Finder‘s Desktop. Interrupt Button also works with minor System Freezes (or Hangs). The freeze cannot be severe, though. One of the following events must still be able to occur: You can move the mouse; you can use the keyboard; or, if you cannot do EITHER of those, chances are Interrupt Button will not work. Do not hesitate to try Interrupt Button, though! There is one disadvantage to using this INIT: the prgram you were working with at the time of the System Error or Freeze will quit, without saving your work.  All other open applications, though, will still function, allowing you to save and quit.

WARNING: DO NOT CONTINUE WITH YOUR WORK!!!  Doing so may cause serious side effects. Things are still VERY unstable. This is why your Mac gets a System Error or freeze in the first place — conditions become unstable and then your Mac goes crazy.  Hopefully, after you restart, things will calm down.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
All you have to do is take the INIT (a system extension in System 7) and drop it into your System Folder. In System 7, it will ask you if you would like to put the item into the Extensions Folder — click “OK”. Restart your Mac, and it will install its self. If you would like to make sure it works, with NO applications open, hit the Interrupt Button. The reason I say there should be no applications open is because, as I said before, it won’t save your documents! It should then redraw your desktop. If it does this, (the menu bar should go blank, and your desktop icons should disappear momentarily) it is working correctly. If it does NOT do this, something is wrong.
